A white or off-white powder with an average particle size of 20–40 μm, insoluble in water, ethanol, or diethyl ether, odorless or slightly characterized by a faint odor, and highly hygroscopic. It features a highly cross-linked network molecular structure with strong water-absorbing and swelling capabilities. Upon contact with water, it promotes the expansion and disintegration of tablet structures, thereby accelerating drug release. Additionally, it can form reversible complexes with polyphenols, tannins, and other components found in health foods, enhancing the solubility and bioavailability of active ingredients while reducing gastrointestinal irritation caused by polyphenolic substances. It serves as an excellent tablet disintegrant and complexing agent in health foods.
